Business Kapiti Horowhenua Awards

Big and small business encouraged to enter Electra Awards
Businesses of all sizes and stages of experience will gain a great deal from entering the 2008 Electra Business Awards run by Business Kapiti Horowhenua, President of BKH Ron Parkin of Genoese Foods says. “It was a great experience and of real value to our business to win an award in 2001 and I’ve been actively encouraging businesses throughout the Kapiti Coast and Horowhenua ever since to give it a go and get the value from it that we did.” Instead of selecting winners from the usual number of categories it has been decided to encourage wider participation by increasing the range to 11. This means that for the 2008 Electra Awards they will be as follows:
• Sustainability– In recognition of the business that has a commitment to the inter related health and well-being of the environment, society, & community, and the economy.
• Connectivity – Recognising the achievement of a business that has committed itself to and achieved a reputation for high levels of industry cooperation sector integration and communication
• Health and Safety – A reward for the business that in the opinion of the Judging Panel has in place the best health & safety systems, understanding and staff, that provides a safe and compliant working environment for staff, customers and users.
• Customer Service – Rewarding the business that demonstrates that it has committed its resources and staff to delight its customer base.
• Operational Capability – Saluting the business that has the systems and methods which have provided substantial improvements to the operating, quality and presentation of products and/or services to its customers.
• Innovation – New Thinking – Recognising the business considered by the Judging Panel as having the most innovative culture. The Award reflects the innovative responses that have been especially used to provide solutions that benefit customers or end users.
• Branding and Image Building – Rewarding the business that shows how well it has developed a marketing culture which has resulted in a flow of useful products/solutions for the company and its customers.
• Growth in Customer Base – Rewarding a business that demonstrates it has grown its customer sales base locally, nationally and/or internationally. • Staff Development – Recognising the business that demonstrates a degree of excellence reached in the training, up-skilling and professional development of its staff.
• Regional Promotion – highlighting the business achieving highly in all or a number of the following: tourism, promotions, products, events, entertainment, or lifestyle that contributes to making the region a desirable destination for visitors.
• High-Growth – Acknowledging the business that is delivering a high growth strategy, and/or is reshaping itself to maximise its high growth potential.
Businesses may enter in any of these categories (there are some special conditions applying to some in order to differentiate one from another including a stand down period of two years).

“With these categories and levels most businesses can find a category to enter and can learn much about themselves while preparing the entry,” Ron Parkin says. Entry is free and help is available in preparing entries. “Entries close this year on 1st May 2008 at 4:00pm, so there’s no time to lose,” Ron says. All you need to do right now is register, and that is very easy. Simply send an e-mail direct to Bev Edlin <cedlin@xtra.co.nz> advising of your interest in entering the 2008 Electra Awards. Within a day or so a form will be e-mailed to you confirming that your name and business has been registered and inviting you to e-mail back some basic details about your enterprise. It’s that easy.
We will then send out to you a formal set of documents that you will use to work through the various activities of your company. We will later get in touch with you to see if you require any assistance. If you do we will make arrangements to visit and assist you with your preparation of your application.
Don’t forget – the Awards are free to enter. It’s equally important to remember that by getting an application in you immediately enjoy publicity for your company and Kapiti Coast Horowhenua. The benefits for those who enter the BKH Awards include: 1 Positive Exposure – all applicants are recognised with the positive attributes used to identify them – there is exposure when the applicants are received, prior to the event, at the event and after the event. 2 The process and preparation required for the application is based on modern good business practice
We look forward to hearing from you.
